Aurelia M. "Ral" Grippo, 95, of 128 E. 3rd St., Emporium, PA died at her residence, Emporium, PA on Saturday (August 12, 2017) morning.
She was born January 9, 1922 in Conifer, PA a daughter of the late Jerry and Adele Festi Gosetti.
On July 18, 1958 in St. Mark Catholic Church she married the late Joseph Grippo.
Mrs. Grippo graduated from the former Cowanshonnack High School in the class of 1942. She retired from Phillips-Sylvania in 1981 where she worked for over 31 years. She also worked as a waitress at the VFW for many years. She was a member of the St. Mark Catholic Church and the C. D. of A.

She is survived by two daughters, Carla Erskine and Patricia "Patty" Grippo, both of Emporium; three grandchildren: Joshua (Jessica) Grippo,
Jordan Brown & Dustin Erskine; four great grandchildren: Elena Aurelia & Julia Marie Grippo, Dane & Demarco Erskine; one sister, Rose Marie Bernard and her husband Anthony, Rural Valley, PA;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Adele Gosetti, husband, Joseph Grippo who died March 12, 1992; one son, Patrick in infancy; twin sister, Candida Gosetti in infancy; sister, Theresa Gosetti, two brothers, Louis & Guido Gosetti,

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church
235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Friday (August 18, 2017) at 10:30 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant.

Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Clara V. Sarick, 94, of 44 S. Cherry St., Emporium, PA died, peacefully with her family at her side, at her residence on Sunday morning. (August 13, 2017) She was born January 7, 1923 in

Emporium, PA a daughter of the late Charles and Rose Gennacarro Vassallo.
On October 31, 1944 in St. Mark Catholic Church she married the late John "Sonny" Sarick.
Clara graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1941. She retired from Sylvania after 35 years in the payroll Department. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Womans Auxiliary, Unit #6222. She enjoyed playing cards, having played for over 50 years with the same group of friends. Clara loved the many flowers that surrounded her home of the last seventy-plus years, watching them bloom and change with the seasons was such a joy to her. She loved watching her birds on the feeders, reading books, chocolates, playing cards, and sharing time with family and friends. Her greatest love was for her family.

Clara is survived by her son, Barry E. Sarick, Emporium; daughter, Nancy Sarick Vierhaus, San Jose, CA; three Grandchildren: John D. Sarick, Treasure Lake, PA, Jill Santos, Ventura, California, & Eric Vierhaus, Oakland, California; two great grandchildren: Ziggy Finn Santos & Cameron Anisa Sarick and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Rose Vassallo; her beloved and love of her life husband, John "Sonny" Sarick in 2006; two sisters, Virginia MacDonald and Caroline Drotos; one brother, Charles Joseph “Joe” Vassallo.

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Saturday (August 19, 2017) at 10:00 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Michael Lynn Hepfner, 47, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family and closest friends on August 3, 2017 at UNC Hospital.


Born November 13, 1969 to Charles “Bud” William Hepfner and Judith “Judy” Ann(Sprague)(Hepfner) Mosher, Mike grew up in Emporium, PA.


After graduating from Cameron County High School, Mike served in the US Navy from 1987-1993 and was stationed aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (Attack Squad VA-36 Roadrunners) through Desert Shield/ Desert Storm. During these years he found his passion for cooking.

Mike attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a Culinary Arts degree in 2001. From there he received an externship at the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, NC where he worked his way up to Sous Chef with a specialty in Soups, Stocks, and Sauces. In 2004, he started working at The Country Club of North Carolina, Pinehurst, NC, as an Executive Sous Chef.

Mike met Christie (Oldham), the love of his life, in 1992. The two were married in 1994. Together they tackled all of life’s challenges and raised three beautiful daughters, Genna Anne, MacKenzie Rose and Kennedy Jeanell.

He loved spending time with family, cooking, camping, golfing, playing and watching sports – especially Penn State. Mike had a sharp wit and was known for being a jokester. He embodied compassion, serving others through his church and community. Throughout his life, Mike was an inspiration of strength yet always humble; those who knew him were blessed because of it. Above all, he had a love for his family that was paramount.

Mike was preceded in death by his father Charles “Bud” William Hepfner and his Stepfather Robert “Bob” Douglas Mosher.

In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his mother, Judith “Judy” Ann (Sprague) (Hepfner) Mosher of Emporium, PA; brothers Charles “Chuck” Hepfner (Beth) of Emporium, PA and Joseph “Joe” Hepfner (Cristal) of Port Allegany, PA as well as several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He shared a special bond with Emily (Hepfner) Gillis (Tirrell) of Aberdeen, NC and Aaron Hepfner (Jessica) of Aberdeen, NC

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Page Memorial United Methodist Church (Soup Kitchen), Pinecrest High School Marching Band in honor of his daughter MacKenzie, or Pinecrest High School Chorus in honor of his daughter Kennedy.

A Memorial Service in NC will be held at Page Memorial United Methodist Church, Aberdeen, NC with Rev. Mike Davis and Rev. Jane Leechford officiating at 10:00am on Saturday, August 19, 2017. A reception will follow at the Country Club of North Carolina.

Mrs. Katherine L. Bowden, 94, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at her daughters residence.
Mrs. Bowden was born on March 30, 1923 in Criders Corners, Pa to the late Walter and Ethel Garvin Slining. She had graduated from the Mars High School. After raising her children Katherine worked as a bus driver for Rhodes Transit for 20 years. She enjoyed going to the Driftwood Senior Center, and was good at needle work and Tole painting.

She is survived by her daughters Pat (Hollis) Stacey of Franklin Twp., Nancy (James) Smith of Franklin Park, and Linda Bemis of Portersville, her sons James Strella of Georgia, and Walter Bowden of Sinnamahoning and his fiancé Melony Harr of Ligonier, her eight grandchildren, and her ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Paul Strella in 1960, her second husband Walter Bowden in 2000, her daughter Judith Ann Strella, her sister Jeanne Super, and her son-in-law Paul Bemis.

As per Katherine’s wishes there will not be a public service.

The funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services.

Donald R. Hefright, 91, of 23 W. 2nd St., Emporium, PA formerly of Huntingdon, PA died at Snyder Memorial, Marienville, PA on Tuesday, (August 8, 2017) evening following a lengthy illness.

He was born August 18, 1925 in Huntingdon, PA a son of the late Emmerson and Minnie Hughes Hefright.

On June 15, 1974 in First United Methodist Church in Emporium, PA he married Helen E. Housler Hefright, who survives.

Don was the youngest of five children. He graduated from Huntington High School. He served with the US Navy Seebee's for three years during WWII. He attended Juanita College for four years majoring in English. He worked for the United States Postal service as a assistant post master for many years retiring from the Johnsonburg, Pa Post Office. After moving to Emporium he served as the administrator for the mentally challenged group home which is now Northern Tier. He and his wife traveled and loved attending family events. He was active in the community in various organizations including the VFW, the American Legion, the First United Methodist Church and the Senior Center. He also served on the Shade Tree Committee for many years, researched and producted four geneology family names. Some of his hobbies were tennis, polka/square dancing, golf,  artist, picture framer, and carpentry.

He is survived by his wife Helen E. Housler Hefright;  four sons, Tom Hefright and  John Hefright both of Johnsonburg; Craig Hefright, Russell, PA and David Shaw, Emporium; four daughters, Nancy Hartman, Kane; Lori Waddell, East Rochester, PA; Bonnie Smith, and Cathy Wright both of Emporium; numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmerson and Minnie Hughes Hefright, two sisters, Martha and Mabel; two brothers, Cloyd and Dick Hefright and his former wife, Jeanine Speaker Hefright

A Memorial Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 306 South Spruce St, Emporium, PA on Saturday (August 12, 2017) at 3:00 PM with Rev. Joseph Short, Pastor, officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the memorial service.

Burial will be in the Rich Valley Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Kenneth I. Burkhouse, 93, of 616 Rich Valley Rd, Emporium, PA formerly of Sylvan Heights died at Pinecrest Manor, St. Marys, PA on Tuesday (August 15, 2017) afternoon.
He was born September 7, 1923 in Reynoldsville, PA a son of the late Fred and Mae Smith Burkhouse.
On July 19, 1947 in Mt. Jewett he married the late Margaret "Peg" Cupp Burkhouse.
 
Ken graduated from Mount Jewett High School where he was a standout basketball player, playing at the state level. He served with the US Armys Air Corps as a Second Lieutenant where he was a flight instructor during war war II. He then graduated from the Philadelphia School of Pharmacy. He owned several pharmacies in Ridgway and in Lebanon, PA and later partnered with Ed Lundburg in the former Burklund Pharmacy in Emporium, from which he retired in 1989. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Emporium and was an avid golfer bowler, member and past president of the Emporium Country Club for many years.
 
He is survived by two sons, Robert (Merri) Burkhouse, Ridgway and  Kenneth (Ruthie) Burkhouse, Emporium; four grandchildren: Kelly, Kimberly, Justin and Katie; two great grandchildren: Eastan and Cooper.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mae Burkhouse; his wife, Margaret "Peg" Burkhouse who died Sept. 11, 1998; one daughter, in infancy and a brother, Donald Burkhouse.
 
Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-5 PM. Funeral Service will be held at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Monday (August 21, 2017) at 11:00 AM with Rev. Steven Miller, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church, officiating. A Military Service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.
 
Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA
