Jean M. Levey, 62, of 106 E. Second St., Emporium, PA formerly of Wellsville NY, Englewood FL, and Friesland WI died at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA on Tuesday (March 27, 2018) morning following a lengthy illness. She was born May 14, 1955 in Randolph, Wisconsin a daughter of LaVerne Cupery Levey Beghein of Englewood, Florida and the late George Levey. Jean was a Court Clerk in New York State for several years. She moved to Emporium a few years ago to be close to to her daughter and grandchildren who she loved dearly and wanted to spend time with.

 In addition to her mother she is survived by a daughter, Bess (Josh) Smith, Emporium; two grandchildren: Joshua & Jackson Smith, two sisters, Brenda (Mike) Wehrle, Nashville, TN and Faye (Jason) Collins, Ft. Worth, TX; brother, John Levey, Englewood, FL. 

She was preceded in death by father on Dec. 30, 1998.

 There will be No Visitation.

 Graveside Services will be held at the convenience of the family in the Friesland Cemetery, Friesland, Wisconsin.

Margaret J. Simon, 89, of the Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA, formerly of 16 W 5th St, Emporium, PA, passed away Thursday evening (March 22, 2018). She was born July 12, 1928 in Emporium, PA a daughter of the late Roy and Mary (Welch) Stroup. On August 12, 1950 in Emporium, PA she married John A. Simon who preceded her in death in February of 2003.

Marge graduated from Emporium High School and from Penn State University where she received her BA in Education. While at Penn State she was a member of the Blue Band. She retired in 1988 after 26 years with the Cameron County School District. She was the District’s first elementary librarian. She was active in the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was also very involved in each of her children’s activities’ volunteering many hours with each organization. She was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, where she led the effort to reorganize the church library. She was also an active member of the Cameron County Historical Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Robby) McCollum, Charleston, SC; Mary (Tim) Meisel, Emporium; four sons, John P. Simon, Ridgway; Michael (Rita) Simon, West Seneca, NY; Steven (Sandy) Simon, Mechanicsburg, PA; Robert (Mary Jo) Simon, Pittsburgh, PA; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen Geleskie, and a brother, Edwin Stroup.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth St., Emporium, PA on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 12:00 PM, with the Reverend Paul Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant. 

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 East Fourth St., Emporium, PA on Monday, at 11:00 a.m. followed by Mass at St. Mark’s Church and graveside service at St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetary. 

Burial will be in the St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Emporium Volunteer Fire Department, 419 N. Broad St., Emporium, PA 15834.

Elizabeth Sarah "Liz" Overly, 85, of 301 E. Third Street, Emporium, PA formerly of Stahlstown, PA died at her residence on Monday (March 19, 2018) night following a lengthy illness. She was born July 14, 1932 in Latrobe, PA a daughter of the late William G and Sarah Corley Cramer On October 11, 1952 in Maryland she married the late George R. Overly. Mrs. Overly graduated from Ligoneer High School in the class of 1950 and then from Nursing School in Somerset, PA as a LPN, in 1978. She worked at Laurel Highlands Nursing Home, in Donegal, eventually becoming head nurse. She later opened her own personal care home in Somerset in 1983 and ran that until 1993. She enjoyed family, church, parades, the fall season, traveling, dancing and decorating for all the holidays.

Survived by son, Randy Overly, Sinnemahoning; daughter, Cathy (Dimas) Robles, St. Marys; daughter, Betty Overly, Marienville, PA; daughter, Bertha (David) Gordon, Needmore, PA; daughter, Dolores "Lori" Afionis, Emporium; twelve grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, one great great grandson; two Brothers, Charles Kunkle and John Kunkle and a sister, Mary E. Mock all of Stahlstown, PA.

In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Overly who died July 10, 2013, two sons, Donald and George "Rick" Overly.

 There will be No Visitation.

 Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Friday (March 23, 2018) at 11:00 AM with Rev. James Eastman, Pastor, Deeper Waters Ministries, officiating. 

Burial will be in the Porch Cemetery, Acme, PA

Donald R. Priest, 86, of 6845 Beachwood Rd., Emporium, PA died at UPMC-Altoona Hospital, Altoona, PA on Monday (March 19, 2018) afternoon. He was born August 24, 1931 in Truman, PA a son of the late Richard and Audrey Leavitt Priest. On June 7, 1954 in Emporium he married the late Shirley Wenner. Donald graduated from Emporium High School. He retired from Sylvania where he worked for many years. He also worked for Graham Container in Farmers Valley and later at Particle Board in Mt. Jewett. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, his dogs and his cat "Pumpkin". He liked the outdoors, working and tending to his yard. 

He is survived by a son, Dana Priest, Truman; daughter, Kathy (Martin) Tully, Thompson, PA; son, Curt (Janine) Priest, Eldred; three grandchildren: Ryan Tully, Meghan (John) Prunier and Kayla Priest; two great grandchildren: Kendra Priest & Shaye Prunier; one brother, Jerome (Margaret) Priest, Toms River, NJ. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. 

 There will be No Visitation.

A Private Graveside Service will be held at the convenience of the family. 

Burial will be in the Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Walter V. Lewis, age 71, of Sabinsville, PA, died on Saturday, March 17, 2018. He was born on May 29, 1946 in Cameron County, PA, a son of the late Walter O. Lewis and the late Arlene T. Walker.

Walter was formerly employed by Pittsburgh Corning in Port Allegany, PA and Crucible Steel in Midland, PA.

He was a Vietnam veteran serving with the US Air Force.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Walter is survived by a son: Andy (Geri Ann) Lewis of OH, two daughters: Heather Lewis of Port Allegany, PA, Patti (Scott) Spielman of OH, one brother, four sisters, and four grandchildren: Dalton, Parker, Jacob and Jared.

He was predeceased by a granddaughter: Hannah Leora Lewis.

In keeping with his wishes, he will be laid to rest in Cameron County, PA. Arrangements are entrusted to the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., Wellsboro, PA.


Judith A. Sherman, 74, of Clover Rest Home, Columbia, New Jersey formerly of Newfield, NY & Emporium, PA, died at St. Lukes Hospital, Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, New Jersey on Wednesday morning. (March 14, 2018) 

She was born November 1, 1943 in St. Marys, PA a daughter of the late John and Ann Zbailey Malizia. Judy graduated from Cameron County High School in the class of 1961 and later from DuBois Business College. She retired from Special Childrens Center in Ithaca, NY where she had worked in the finance department for over 22 years. She had been a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Emporium. She enjoyed crafts, painting, word puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren and her family and friends. She loved eating Hershey Kisses and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

She is survived by a son, Richard "RJ" (Danielle) Sherman, Jr., Washington NJ; two grandchildren: Richard Sherman, III and Kathryn Sherman; one brother, John (Ellen) Malizia, Emporium; one sister, Debra (Gregory) Kovach, Mercer, PA. 

 She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Malizia. 

Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. Fourth St., Emporium, PA on Friday (March 23, 2018) from 4-7 PM. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Saturday (March 24, 2018) at 9:30 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant. 

 Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA 

Memorial Contributions may be made to Guy and Mary Felt Manor Assisted Living Activity Fund or Franziska W. Racker Memorial Fund at the Franziska Racker Centers.

Arlington Wade Dunkle, 96, of Smethport, PA, passed away Friday (March 2, 2018) in the Bradford Regional Medical Center, Bradford.

He was born March 2, 1922 in Clermont, a son of Roy Arthur and Beatrice Fay Church Dunkle. On April 27, 1946, in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Rectory, Smethport, he married Veronica Teresa Ukasinski, who died May 18, 1989.

Mr. Dunkle graduated from Colegrove High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1943 to 1945, where he was part of the D-Day invasion of Normandy. He fought in Northern France, the Rhineland, and the Ardennes.

Mr. Dunkle was a truck driver for many different companies over the years, retiring from Dresser Clarke/Rand. After retirement, he worked for the former Market Basket in Smethport as a janitor. He also helped mow lawns in the community.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Smethport, the American Legion; Bucktail Post #138 of Smethport, where he was a Past Commander, VFW Post #2497 of Smethport and the Elderberries Club at the Smethport Senior Center. He was a former member of the Smethport Ambulance Association, helped deliver Meals-on-Wheels, was a Red Cross Volunteer, a two-time McKean County Fair King, loved dancing, reading and Drive-In movies. He was a devoted Father and Grandfather.

He is survived by: one daughter: Deborah G. Dunkle of Emporium, PA, one son: Arlington Randle Dunkle of Smethport, PA, three sisters: Vesta June Dunkle Smith of Renovo, PA, Minnie Fay Dunkle Herzog of Roulette, PA and Ruby Marlene Dunkle Burt of Smethport, PA,,one brother: Wilbur Vincent Dunkle of Smethport, PA, two granddaughters: Rande Phoebe Dunkle and Suzanne Theresa Dunkle.  And many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers: Keith Eugene, Kenneth LeRoy, Roland Dale, Roy LaVerne and Arthur James Dunkle. He was also predeceased by two sisters: Violet May Kelley and Irene Elizabeth Dunkle.

Arlington chose to donate his body to science. A memorial service in his remembrance will be held Saturday, March 24 at 11:00 am from the United Methodist Church of Smethport, with the Rev. Rob Hernan, pastor, officiating.

Arlington’s family requests prayers be said for him. They gratefully decline all flowers or food items that may be sent to them.
